Liu Jianchao Meets with Tore Hattrem, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Norway

Beijing, March 28th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Tore Hattrem, Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of Norway.

Liu said, in recent years, China-Norway relations have maintained healthy and stable development. The CPC maintains sound exchanges and cooperation with political parties such as the Norwegian Labour Party, playing a positive role in enhancing mutual understanding and trust between China and Norway. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen inter-party exchanges with the Norwegian side, uphold the principle of mutual respect, deepen dialogue and communication, enrich people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote bilateral relations for new development in the new era.

Liu said, the CPC is leading the Chinese people to comprehensively promote Chinese modernization, and will continue to adhere to the path of peaceful development, promote high-level opening up, and accelerate high-quality development. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Civilization Initiative, which, together with the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, will continue to enrich the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and strive to benefit the people of all countries. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation with the Norwegian side, intensify coordination in international affairs, jointly respond to global challenges, practice true multilateralism, and push for world development and prosperity.

Hattrem said, the Norwegian side highly praises China's remarkable achievements in economic and social development and in lifting hundreds of millions of people out of poverty in recent decades. Norway attaches great importance to developing relations with China. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic, the senior leaders of the two sides have maintained close communication, and our two countries have made new progress in fields such as economy, trade and fishery, as well as maintained sound cooperation in multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations. The Norwegian side congratulated China on promoting the reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and hoped to strengthen international cooperation with the Chinese side, uphold multilateralism, and maintain world peace and stability. The Norwegian Labour Party and other political parties attach importance to strengthening exchanges with the CPC, promoting bilateral cooperation in sustainable development and other fields, and better benefiting the two peoples.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.
