Beijing, April 14th—Qian Hongshan, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Gunnar Wiegand, EEAS Managing Director for the Asia and the Pacific.

Qian said, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-European Union (EU) comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese side has always viewed and developed China-EU relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, and is willing to work with the EU side to implement important consensus reached by the leaders of the two sides, maintain close communication, deepen cooperation in various fields, and enhance exchanges and mutual learning, so as to contribute to world peace and development.

Wiegand said, the EU side attaches great importance to developing relations with China. In the current complex international situation, the EU side opposes confrontation between blocs, does not support "decoupling and breaking the chains" and hopes to strengthen dialogue and deepen cooperation with the Chinese side, so as to effectively respond to global challenges.
