Beijing, April 19th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with members of a workshop of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) National Executive Committee led by Cde. Daniel Godfrey Chongolo, Secretary General of CCM of Tanzania.

Liu said that the long-standing friendship between China and Tanzania is the common asset shared by people from the two countries. Last November, President Xi Jinping and visiting Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced together the elevation of China-Tanzania relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, setting the strategic development direction for bilateral relations in the new era. Guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, the Chinese side is willing to work with the Tanzanian side to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen inter-party exchanges, promote practical cooperation in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and other areas, boost people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and foster strategic coordination and policy communication between the two countries, so as to steer China-Tanzania relations towards greater achievements.

Liu said, both the CPC and the CCM shoulder the historic mission of strengthening and revitalizing themselves. The CPC is willing to enhance strategic communication between the two Parties, firmly support each other on issues concerning our core interests, and contribute to further development of China-Tanzania relations and China-Africa friendship. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and leads China to the advancement of Chinese modernization on all fronts with high-quality development, providing more cooperation opportunities for Tanzania and other African countries, thus building closer China-Africa ties to better deliver benefits to both peoples. The Chinese side supports the teaching and operation of the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School and will provide as much assistance as possible.

In the meeting, Chongolo first extended the warm congratulations from Hassan, head of the CCM and Tanzanian President, on the election of General Secretary Xi Jinping as Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, showing the Tanzanian side’s conviction that China will achieve even greater development success under the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC. Chongolo then said that he came to China on his first visit after being elected as the General Secretary of the CCM, which shows that the CMM highly values developing its relations with the CPC. The older generation of Tanzanian and Chinese leaders have built up a profound friendship and jointly laid a solid foundation for friendly relations between Tanzania and China. Under the leadership of the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries, Tanzania and China keep achieving new results in their cooperation at all levels and in all fields.

Chongolo said, inter-party exchanges feature prominently in the Tanzania-China relations. The CCM is grateful to the CPC for providing valuable support to the construction and operation of the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School, and is willing to leverage this platform to implement the important consensus between the leaders of both sides and enhance experience exchanges in party building and state governance, enhance the party’s capability in governance, and promote economic and social development. The Tanzanian side is willing to improve coordination with the Chinese side on international affairs, firmly support the Chinese side’s principled position on issues of core interests, and engage actively in major international initiatives proposed by the Chinese side to set an example of Africa-China friendly cooperation.

After the meeting, Liu and Chongolo signed the memorandum of understanding on exchanges and cooperation between the two Parties.

Li Mingxiang, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, and others attended the meeting.
