Liu Jianchao Meets with EDC Delegation of Iran

Beijing, May 8th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, Secretary of the Expediency Discernment Council (EDC) of Iran.

Liu said, both China and Iran are ancient civilizations, and our two countries share a long-standing friendship. In February this year, President Xi Jinping had a successful meeting with visiting Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, leading the comprehensive development of bilateral relations. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the CPC and the EDC. The two sides have maintained close exchanges and vigorously promoted cooperation between political parties, governments, political organizations, and think tanks. Our meeting this time is an important measure to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state through inter-party channels. The IDCPC is willing to work with the EDC to strengthen experience exchange in state governance and administration around issues such as poverty eradication, green development, path to modernization, and exchanges of civilizations, implement China-Iran comprehensive cooperation plan, continue to firmly support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns, and push China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership for greater development.

Liu said, thanks to the concerted efforts of all parties recently, the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia in Beijing have achieved major results, and the relationship between the Middle East and the Gulf region has shown much momentum of easing tensions. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Iranian side, strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, continuously promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, practice true multilateralism, and oppose hegemonism and power politics, champion international fairness and justice, maintain regional and world peace and development, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Zolghadr warmly congratulated on the successful convening of the 20th CPC National Congress and the "two sessions", and congratulated General Secretary Xi Jinping on his election as the President of China. Zurgader said, as two ancient civilizations, Iran and China enjoy a profound traditional friendship, and have continuously witnessed new fruits in cooperation in various fields. The Iranian side regards developing relations with China as an important strategic choice, attaches great importance to strengthening strategic communication with the CPC, and believes it is an important part of Iran-China relations. I lead a high-level Iranian delegation during this visit to China, and I look forward to reinforcing exchanges with Chinese departments including the IDCPC, enhancing exchanges and mutual learning on experience in economic development, social governance, environmental protection, combating corruption, and facilitating pragmatic cooperation between Iran and China, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

Zolghadr said, today's world faces multiple crises and challenges. The Iranian side highly appreciates President Xi Jinping's major global initiatives, and thanks the Chinese side for shouldering its responsibility as a major country and playing an important role in promoting the normalization of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia and maintaining regional peace and stability. The Iranian side upholds an independent foreign policy, firmly supports the Chinese side in safeguarding its core interests, and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side in multilateral affairs, jointly oppose hegemonism and unilateralism, maintain international fairness and justice, and contribute to world peace and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
