Liu Jianchao Meets with Joe Hackett, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland

Dublin, June 22nd—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Joe Hackett, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland.

Liu said, the Chinese side attaches great importance to China-Ireland relations, and is willing to work with the Irish side to maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen the docking of development strategies, seize opportunities, build consensus, and deepen cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, scientific and technological innovation, green economy, climate change, modern agriculture, culture, and tourism, continuously promote China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation for greater development, deliver more benefits to the two peoples, promote China-EU cooperation, and join hands to cope with global challenges.

Liu said, political parties play an important role in a country's political life. The CPC is willing to further strengthen exchanges with major political parties of Ireland, enhance political mutual trust and mutual understanding, and contribute to the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations.

Hackett welcomed the CPC delegation on behalf of the Irish government. Calling China an important cooperation partner of Ireland, he said the two countries have always maintained friendly exchanges and robust momentum of cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, agriculture, medicine, science and technology, education, and people-to-people and cultural engagement. The Irish side is willing to strengthen exchanges with the Chinese side at all levels and in various fields to promote greater development of bilateral relations. The Irish side adheres to multilateralism and free trade, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to jointly promote the development of EU-China relations and strengthen cooperation in multilateral institutions such as the United Nations.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.
