Rome, June 27th—Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Calling China an important partner for Italy to carry out dialogue and cooperation, Tajani said Italy and China have close cooperation in economy, trade, tourism, and culture. Italy adheres to the one-China principle and hopes the Asia-Pacific region will maintain peace and stability. The Italian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and promote bilateral relations for active, healthy and stable development. Italy is willing to become a bridge connecting Europe and China and continue to play an active role in Europe-China relations.

Liu said, China regards Italy as an important dialogue partner. China-Italy relations have maintained stable, smooth and sustainable development for a long time, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. In November last year, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had a successful meeting in Bali, reaching important consensus on further developing China-Italy relations. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Italian side to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between political parties, governments, parliaments, and exchanges and cooperation at non-governmental level, as well as continuously enhance mutual understanding.

Liu said, Italy has always been a front-runner of European countries in developing relations with China, and we appreciate that. It is hoped that the two sides will jointly promote multilateralism, a free and open global trading system, oppose "decoupling and severing chains", and push China-Italy and China-Europe relations for sustainable and stable development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and relations between major countries.
