President of ANC and President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa Meets with Liu Jianchao

Johannesburg, July 18th—Cyril Ramaphosa, President of African National Congress (ANC) and President of South Africa, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Ramaphosa welcomed Liu, who led a CPC delegation to visit South Africa and attend the 2023 BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogue held by the ANC, considering it as significant support for South Africa in hosting the BRICS meetings. Ramaphosa stated that China is an important strategic partner for South Africa and expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for its valuable support in South Africa's struggle for national independence, liberation, and economic development, as well as its support for hosting the BRICS Summit. The ANC regards the CPC as a trustworthy friend and appreciates the assistance provided by the CPC in areas such as official training. Ramaphosa expressed the hope to enhance inter-party exchanges to further promote the development of bilateral relations.

Liu said that in recent years, under the joint guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Ramaphosa, China-South Africa relations enjoy development in a wider scope, broader areas and at a deeper level. The CPC is willing to work with the ANC to implement important consensuses reached by the top leaders of both Parties and countries, strengthen experience exchanges and mutual learning in state governance and administration, enhance exchanges at all levels, and push China-South Africa relations for further development. The Chinese side supports the South African side in hosting the 15th BRICS Summit and other BRICS activities, and is willing to work with the South African side to promote the interests of developing countries and emerging economies.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Ukraine crisis.
