Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Leader of the Militant Socialist Movement and Prime Minister of Mauritius Meets with Liu Jianchao

Port Louis, July 24th—Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Leader of the Militant Socialist Movement and Prime Minister of Mauritius, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.

Jugnauth first asked Liu to convey his sincere regards to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He said, I met with President Xi Jinping twice in 2018, which is still fresh in my memory. The friendship between Mauritius and China has a long history, with the governments and political parties of the two sides maintaining friendly exchanges and many highlights in cultural exchanges. China's first overseas cultural center is established in Mauritius. And Mauritius is also the only African country that lists the Chinese New Year as a statutory holiday. The Mauritian side thanks the Chinese side for its support for Mauritius' economy, finance, skills training, and social development, speaks positively of the important role Chinese have played in Mauritius' economic and social development, and looks forward to closer personnel exchanges between the two countries after the pandemic.

Jugnauth said that Mauritius admires China's rapid economic development, looks forward to learning from China's successful experience, and is willing to take advantage of the full implementation of the Mauritius-China Free Trade Agreement to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote national modernization. The Mauritian side firmly supports the Chinese side's position in international affairs, highly appreciates China's important role in maintaining world peace, and is ready to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to push forward world development and prosperity. The Mauritian side is willing to help Africa and China achieve win-win cooperation and common development at a higher level.

Liu conveyed warm regards from President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to Jugnauth. He noted, China and Mauritius enjoy a long-term friendship. The two countries boast cultural diversity and share similar values, with fruitful cooperation in various fields on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment. In recent years, under the promotion of the leaders of both sides, the relationship between the CPC and the Militant Socialist Movement has made great progress. The Chinese side appreciates the Mauritian side's firm support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns, and hopes that the two sides will carry forward traditional friendship, strengthen political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation, and make China-Mauritius friendship more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

Liu noted, at present, the CPC embarks on a new journey of the second centenary goal, and is comprehensively promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization. Facing the complex international situation, General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. The Chinese side promotes cooperation including the Belt and Road cooperation to help countries align their development strategies and promote connectivity and common development. Mauritius enjoys political stability and social harmony, and creates the "Mauritius miracle" in the course of its development. Under the new situation, it is hoped that the two sides will seize development opportunities, continuously elevate China-Mauritius and China-Africa relations, firmly safeguard the interests of developing countries, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
