Liu Jianchao Meets with Maneesh Gobin, General Secretary of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) of Mauritius

Port Louis, July 24th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Maneesh Gobin, General Secretary of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) of Mauritius, Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security of Mauritius. Soomilduth Bholah, Vice President of the MSM and Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, Vice President of the MSM and Minister of Social Integration, Social Security, and National Solidarity,  Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, Deputy Secretary-General of the MSM and the Minister of Financial Services and Good Governance, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, President of the Women's Wing of the MSM, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, and others attended and addressed the function.

Liu said, although China and Mauritius are oceans apart, the two countries share a brotherly friendship. In recent years, under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, China-Mauritius cooperation in various fields has shown good momentum. The CPC attaches great importance to maintaining close contact with the MSM, an important political force in Mauritius. It is hoped that the ruling parties of the two countries will take the opportunity of the start of the second 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries to fully implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication, and deepen experience exchange in state governance and administration. The Chinese side appreciates the Mauritian side's firm support for the Chinese side on issues related to China's core interests such as the Taiwan question, and issues related to Xinjiang and Hong Kong. It is hoped that the two sides will intensify cooperation in various fields and advance modernization hand in hand.

Liu explained the historical achievements and basic experience of the CPC over the past century, saying that the CPC has always adhered to the people-centered concept, united and led the Chinese people to live a better life. General Secretary Xi Jinping, while keeping the world in mind, put forward the Belt and Road Initiative and the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, which brought vitality to the process of globalization and the evolution of world history. China and Mauritius share extensive common interests in safeguarding the rights and interests of developing countries and addressing global challenges such as climate change. The Chinese side supports Mauritius in playing a role in international and regional affairs, and is willing to strengthen international cooperation, jointly oppose hegemonism and power politics, and benefit the people of China and Africa.

General Secretary Gobin and leaders of the MSM happily congratulated the CPC on leading the Chinese people to realize development achievements over the past century. They believed that China not only achieved its own prosperity and development, but also benefited Africa and the world at large through its development. They sincerely wished the CPC more glories in the next century.

The Mauritian side said, since the MSM established relations with the CPC, the two Parties have maintained friendly relations and regular exchanges. The Chinese side has given huge support to the MSM and the people of Mauritius in project exchanges, skills training, and facility funds. The Mauritian side particularly mentioned and thanked the vaccines and other support the Chinese side offered during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped Mauritius successfully control the pandemic. Mauritius is the first African country to sign a free trade agreement with China. It is hoped that the two sides will expand cooperation in trade, finance, education, science, technology, and media, strengthen infrastructure construction, and treat Mauritius as a bridge to develop business with Africa. The Mauritian side adheres to the one-China principle, appreciates China's support for Mauritius on the Chagos Archipelago and other issues, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to safeguard the interests of developing countries and promote the development of Mauritius-China and Africa-China relations.
