Liu Jianchao Holds Discussions and Exchanges with Representatives of Various Circles of Rwanda, Including RPF Members, Government Officials, Mainstream Media, and Think Tank Scholars

Kigali, July 26th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, and his delegation held here today discussions and exchanges with representatives of various circles of Rwanda, including members of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), government officials, mainstream media, and scholars of think tanks. Leaders such as Wellars Gasamagera, RPF Secretary General, and others were present.

Liu said, China regards high-quality development as the top priority of building a modern socialist country in all respects, and will continue to inject more stability into the recovery and growth of the world economy and create more opportunities for all countries. At present, the world is entering a new period of turmoil and change. At the same time, emerging markets and developing countries are rising in groups. General Secretary Xi Jinping proposed the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative in response to the challenges facing the world. The Chinese side is willing to, together with African countries including the Rwandan side, strengthen international coordination, oppose external interference, oppose "erecting walls or barriers", and jointly safeguard international fairness and justice.

Liu said, China is willing to work with Rwanda to firmly support each other in independently choosing a development path, strengthen the docking of development strategies, support each other's industrialization and modernization process, promote the integration of the Chinese culture and Umuganda culture, jointly push forward the cause of China-Africa friendship and build together a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future, so as to set an example for promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Richard Tusabe, Minister of State In Charge of the National Treasury, comprehensively introduced Rwanda's transformation of national development, as well as the rapid, sustainable and diversified economic development at present. Tusabe said, under the leadership of President Paul Kagame and the RPF, Rwanda has adhered to a development path that suits its national conditions, successfully maintained social harmony and stability, and made important progress in economic and social development. Rwanda now aspires to High-Income Country status by 2050. Calling China an important and reliable partner of Rwanda, he said Rwanda is willing to actively learn the experience of party building and state governance, poverty alleviation and development from the Chinese side.

Sabin Nsanzimana, Minister of Health of Rwanda, Usta Kaitesi, Chief Executive Officer of Rwanda Governance Board, Protais Musoni, Senior Advisor to the Secretary General of the RPF and others delivered speeches. They said, the success of China's reform and development is the greatest event in the world, and it has become an example for the vast number of developing countries to achieve national transformation. The Rwandan side thanks the Chinese side for supporting its key projects in the fields of energy, agriculture, and education in the spirit of mutual respect. This year marks the 60th anniversary of China's dispatch of a medical team to Africa. The Rwandan side is willing to work with the Chinese side to enhance the quality and effectiveness of practical cooperation, bring more benefits to the two countries and the people of Africa and China, and set a benchmark for mutually beneficial cooperation among developing countries.

Gerald Mbanda, founder of Africa China Review, Felly Kimenyi, Managing Editor at The New Times, and Safari Gaspard, executive director of Imvaho Nshya, and others actively made speeches and joined in interaction. The Rwandan side said, Rwanda and China have similar historical experiences and similar governance concepts, with bilateral relations sharing a profound foundation. In today's world, multiple challenges and various crises are intertwined, making economic recovery of the world difficult. We support cooperation among BRICS countries and believe that the recently held BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogue has effectively promoted South-South cooperation and the development of multilateralism. We appreciate General Secretary Xi Jinping's Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Belt and Road Initiative, and believe that these will help Rwanda and other African countries achieve sustainable growth and maintain world stability and prosperity.

During the visit, Liu also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial, paid tribute to victims of the genocide, and gave interviews to local media.
