Paris, October 10th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Emmanuel Bonne, French President's Diplomatic Advisor.

Liu said, China and France are important strategic partners to each other. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 60 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has always been at the forefront of China's relations with Western countries. In April this year, President Xi Jinping reached important consensus on the development of bilateral relations with President Emmanuel Macron, who was on a state visit to China. Thanks to the strong guidance of the two heads of state, China-France exchanges at all levels and in all fields continue to achieve new results. In a turbulent world, the strategic significance of the healthy and stable development of China-France relations has become increasingly prominent. The Chinese side has always regarded the European Union (EU) as an important pole in the multi-polar world, supports the EU's strategic independence, prosperity and security, and Europe's efforts in European integration. Facing the current downward pressure on the world economy, China and the EU should strengthen cooperation to cope with risks.

Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. Standing at a new historical starting point, the Chinese side is willing to work with the French side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continue to view bilateral relations from a long-term and strategic perspective, accommodate each other's major concerns, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and shoulder the responsibility of major countries for safeguarding multilateralism and improving global governance.

Bonne said, the French side attaches great importance to developing relations with China and expects the two sides will intensify high-level visits and exchanges to promote mutual trust and friendship between the two peoples. France-China relations go beyond bilateral scope. In today's world full of crises and challenges, it is crucial for both sides to maintain good exchanges. The French side hopes to steadily advance EU-China relations, abandon the bloc confrontation mentality, establish a stable cooperation structure between the EU and China, and achieve common goals such as economic growth as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides shoulder important global responsibilities, including maintaining world peace, promoting development, responding to climate change, and protecting biological diversity. It is hoped that the two sides will strengthen coordination on international and regional hotspot issues, play the role of major countries, and jointly ensure global security, stability and development.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on the Ukraine crisis, the Middle East, the Korean Peninsula and other issues.
