Liu Jianchao Meets with Catherine Colonna, French Foreign Minister

Paris, October 11th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Catherine Colonna, French Foreign Minister.

Liu said, in April this year, President Xi Jinping met with President Emmanuel Macron and reached important consensus, which charted the course for China-France cooperation at bilateral, EU-China and global levels. Under the political guidance of the two heads of state, China-France exchanges at all levels have resumed with strong momentum, and cooperation mechanisms in various fields have gradually restarted. Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, as well as the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. The Chinese side is willing to work with the French side to comprehensively promote exchanges in such areas as political parties, governments, legislatures, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, jointly organize relevant celebrations, and lay a solid foundation for the future development of bilateral relations.

Liu said, China and France are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and responsible major countries. Both countries adhere to an independent foreign principle, and champion multilateralism. The two sides should strengthen international cooperation, maintain a balanced and stable international order, and jointly respond to global challenges such as climate change. The Chinese side always views China-EU relations from a strategic perspective and hopes that France will play a positive role in jointly safeguarding the sound situation of China-EU cooperation.

Colonna said, the successful visit to China in April this year left a deep impression on President Emmanuel Macron. France attaches great importance to developing relations with China and hopes that the two sides will maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges of visits, deepen exchanges and cooperation at all levels, and carry forward the traditional friendship. The French side is glad to see the resumption of personnel exchanges between the two countries after the pandemic and the continuous deepening of bilateral friendship. Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which is of great significance to both sides. It is hoped that both sides will implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, expand cooperation in health, education, culture and other fields, promote the stable and balanced development of economic and trade relations, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. France opposes the division of the world and believes that in the face of global challenges, all countries should work together. France hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as addressing climate change and protecting biodiversity.

The two sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on international and regional issues such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukraine crisis.
