 ( 2023.10.20 )

Berlin, October 12th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Lars Klingbeil, Co-chair of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of Germany.

Liu said, in November 2022, President Xi Jinping had in-depth exchanges and reached consensus with visiting Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, which provided guidance for the development of China-Germany relations. At present, the two sides are witnessing close communication at all levels and continuous improvement of all-round cooperation. The year 2024 will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the CPC and the SPD. It is hoped that the two sides will give full play to the strategic guidance of high-level exchanges between the two Parties, jointly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, conduct in-depth exchanges on respective concepts, policies and common challenges, and enhance mutual understanding and political trust. China and Germany both have a long history and profound cultural heritage. It is hoped that the two sides will strengthen exchanges between legislative bodies, culture and think tanks, to promote the development of the all-round strategic partnership.

In today's world, multiple challenges and various crises are intertwined, and the global significance of China-Germany and China-EU relations has become increasingly prominent. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the German side in international affairs. Proceeding from the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the long-term well-being of mankind, we need to adhere to strategic autonomy and join hands to seek solutions to global issues, so as to provide more stability and positive energy for the world.

Klingbeil said, in June 2023, I led an SPD delegation and visited China successfully to promote inter-party exchanges between the two sides. The German side attaches great importance to intensifying personnel exchanges with the Chinese side, and is willing to strengthen exchanges and interactions on cooperation in various fields and issues of common interest, properly handle differences, and enhance mutual understanding and trust, so as to realize mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. The SPD hopes to strengthen strategic dialogue with the CPC, and is ready to take the 40th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two Parties in 2024 as an opportunity to conduct in-depth communication and exchanges on issues related to diplomacy and security, economic and social development, and climate change, so as to promote the development of Germany-China relations and contribute to the development of EU-China relations. As both Germany and China are major countries with global influence, the German side is willing to strengthen international coordination with the Chinese side and play a greater role in safeguarding global security and stability.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on the Ukraine crisis, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and other issues.
