Berlin, October 13th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Martin Schirdewan, Co-Chairman of Germany’s Left Party and the Confederal Group of the European United Left.

Liu said that the CPC has maintained high-level exchanges with Germany's Left Party to advance China-Germany all-round strategic partnership for continuous development. Despite differences in social systems, history, and cultural backgrounds, both China and Germany are committed to building a fair and equitable society and face common challenges on global issues. Under the new circumstances, the CPC is willing to keep high-level contacts with Germany’s Left Party to deepen concept exchanges and promote cooperation. The Left Party is welcome to visit China in due course and contribute to improving China-Germany friendship.

Liu said that China is committed to advancing high-quality development, embracing a path of green and peaceful development, and pursuing high-standard opening-up at present. China supports the strategic autonomy of the European Union (EU) and sincerely hopes for prosperity and stability in Europe. The Chinese side greatly appreciates the long-term support from the Confederal Group of the European United Left and Schirdewan in facilitating cooperation between Europe and China. The CPC hopes that both sides can bear in mind the larger picture of the world and leverage complementarities so as to promote the development of a multi-polar world and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Schirdewan said, the Left Party places significant importance on engaging in in-depth discussions on issues of mutual trust with the CPC. Given the complex and fast-changing international environment, properly handling major-country relationship is vital for maintaining global strategic stability and promoting world development and progress. As a major country with substantial global influence, China is assuming an increasingly pivotal role in international governance. It is believed that China's development will significantly impact on the progress of human civilization. Europe should adhere to strategic independence, play the role of an independent pole in the global community, and continue dialogue and cooperation with China in its efforts to address issues related to climate change, economic transformation, poverty and famine. The two sides should focus on consensus, properly handle differences, uphold a level playing field, and achieve economic growth.
