Beijing, October 16th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Tony Blair, former leader of the Labour Party and former Prime Minister of the UK.

Liu appreciated Blair's efforts on promoting the development of China-UK relations over the years. He noted that the sound development of China-UK relations is conductive to both bilateral cooperation and world peace and development. China is not a challenge or threat to the UK, but a cooperative partner and development opportunity. Economic globalization and interdependence facilitate risk prevention and common development. The "de-risking" based on competitive anxiety is only counterproductive. The Chinese side opposes "decoupling with others and severing supply chains" and "small yard with high fences", but endeavors to build a global cooperation framework with inclusiveness and openness. Liu hoped that the UK will view the development of China and the collective rise of developing countries from an objective and rational perspective, and strengthen international cooperation in climate change response, sustainable development and other fields.

Liu said that inter-party exchanges are an important part of China-UK relations. The CPC stands ready to work with political parties of the UK to take advantage of the mechanism and platforms like the UK-China Senior Leadership Forum to conduct candid and open dialogues and enhance political mutual trust.

Blair recognized the productive visit of the CPC delegation to the UK in this June and the vital importance of enhancing dialogue and exchanges between the two sides. He said that the two countries embrace huge space for cooperation on economy and trade, finance, science and technology, health, ecology, climate change and other fields. The two sides should find pertinent fields to carry out cooperation effectively.

The Labour Party of the UK is willing to strengthen dialogue with the CPC, so as to deepen understanding and forge open and stable relations between the two countries. The international economic and political situation is undergoing significant transformations, showing a trend of the world power gravity shifting to the east and the expanding influence of the Global South countries. The UK values China's important role in the international system and is ready to work with the Chinese side to cope with global challenges.

Both sides also exchanged views on the conflict between Palestine and Israel and other international issues.
