Zhao Shitong Meets with a Political and Business Delegation of Pacific Island Countries

Beijing, October 18th—Zhao Shitong, Assistant-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with a political and business delegation of Pacific Island Countries (PICs) led by Viliami Latu, Minister of Trade and Economic Development of Tonga.

Zhao introduced the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and said the Chinese side is willing to actively promote high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with Pacific island countries, make full use of the "political party + practical cooperation" platform, and help build a closer China-PICs community with a shared future.

Latu thanked the Chinese side for the selfless assistance to the PICs. Latu said, the PICs cherish their friendship with China and look forward to deepening practical cooperation with China under the framework of the BRI, promoting connectivity within the region, and continuing to advance cooperation areas including economy, trade, and people-to-people and cultural engagement between both sides to achieve common development.

Representatives from government departments, business associations and entrepreneur representatives of Tonga, Fiji, Solomon Islands, French Polynesia and other countries and regions attended the meeting.
