 ( 2023.10.10 )

Paris, October 9th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Cédric Perrin, President of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee of French Senate.

Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 60 years ago, China-France relations have been moving forward steadily for a long time, showing strategic, global and pioneering significance. President Xi Jinping and President Emmanuel Macron maintained strategic communication and drew a blueprint for the development of bilateral relations. Currently, China and France respect each other politically, enjoy mutual benefit and win-win results in economy and trade, and coordinate with each other on international issues. It is hoped that the French Senate will actively support exchanges and cooperation between the political parties, governments and legislatures of the two countries and promote the development of China-France relations. China maintains stability and continuity in its policy toward the EU. China-EU cooperation allows us to share development opportunities. The so-called "de-risks" is to throw away opportunities and cooperation. It is hoped that the French side will proceed from a long-term perspective, help the EU side create a fair, non-discriminatory and predictable market environment for China-EU cooperation, and work together to address issues such as climate change.

Liu said, currently, geopolitical environment remains tense, the Ukraine crisis continues, and Palestinian-Israeli conflict has escalated again. President Xi Jinping has proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, providing new ideas for maintaining world peace, development and stability. China and France both adhere to independence, multilateralism and free trade, and should therefore jointly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law. The Chinese side supports the French side in promoting the construction of a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework, and is willing to strengthen international cooperation to jointly respond to conflict and challenges.

Warmly welcoming Liu, Perrin said this is the first foreign delegation I received after being elected as the President of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Committee of French Senate. I have visited China for many times and believe that strengthening mutual visits between our two countries will help enhance mutual understanding and trust, and promote the development of respective countries. Although the two sides have different views on some issues, our consensus far outweighs the differences. In the face of the complicated international situation, France and China, as major countries, will strengthen coordination, which will promote the establishment of an international order of stability, coordination and mutual respect. The world is interdependent, and the economies of Europe and China are deeply integrated. The French side adheres to strategic independence, supports economic globalization and multilateralism, and attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation in bilateral and multilateral institutions on the basis of respecting international law and international rules. The French side looks forward to promoting the comprehensive resumption of relations between the two countries after the epidemic, expanding exchanges between political parties, governments, legislatures, enterprises, and students, and actively promoting economic cooperation in a balanced way.

Both sides also had in-depth exchanges of views on international hotspot issues.
