Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of the Government of California, US

Beijing, October 31st—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of the government of California headed by Mike Fong, Member of the California State Assembly and Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee.

Liu said, the relations between China and the United States (US) are important to both countries and the world. China and the US have successively carried out a series of high-level contacts these days, jointly sending positive signals to stabilize and improve China-US relations. Many major challenges in today's world require cooperation between China and the US. The Chinese side is willing to work with the US side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state in Bali, adhere to mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, strengthen exchanges and dialogue, eliminate interference, enhance consensus, and push bilateral relations back to the track of healthy and stable development, so as to benefit both countries and the world at large.

Liu said, President Xi Jinping emphasized during his recent meeting with Governor of California Gavin Newsom that the Chinese side attaches great importance to and supports exchanges from all walks of life and cooperation at the local level between China and the US. The Chinese side appreciates the California government's commitment to promoting China-US friendship. China is comprehensively advancing Chinese modernization with high-quality development. We are willing to strengthen cooperation with California and other US regions in trade, culture, education, tourism and other areas through government, political party and non-governmental channels, so as to inject positive energy into enhancing the objective understanding of China from all walks of life in the US as well as improving and developing China-US relations.

Mike Fong said, the stable development of US-China relations is very important. We witnessed China's rapid development during the visit to China, which left a deep impression on us. California is the fifth largest economy in the world and has the largest Chinese community in the US. It has profound exchanges with China and attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with China. We are willing to take this visit as an opportunity to further promote mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between California and China in economy, education, culture, and climate change, etc., expand personnel exchanges, and bring more benefits to the people of the US and China.
