Beijing, November 7th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Micheal Martin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence at request.

Martin said, Ireland-China friendship has a long history. The Irish side attaches importance to developing relations with China, regards China as an important partner, and hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in economy, trade, people-to-people exchanges, agriculture and other fields. As an EU member state, the Irish side is committed to developing robust EU-China relations, adheres to free and open economic policies, opposes "decoupling" from China, and hopes to promote closer cooperation between the EU and China in aspects such as climate change and sustainable development. The Irish side appreciates China's active role in resolving global hotspot issues.

Liu said, China-Ireland relations have developed steadily. The two countries have maintained high-level exchanges and interactions, with cooperation in various fields continuously being deepened. The CPC attaches importance to maintaining various forms of exchanges with major political parties such as the Fianna Fáil, and is willing to enhance understanding and mutual trust and promote the further development of China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation. In the face of the turbulent international situation, China and Ireland need to strengthen communication and cooperation, jointly safeguard multilateralism, and promote economic globalization. Any form of "decoupling, severing supply chains", and "de-risking" is essentially harmful. Ireland is an important EU member. The Chinese side is willing to work with all EU member states, including Ireland, to promote the development of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, enable all parties to stay united, respond to various global challenges, and promote world peace, security and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and the Afghan issue.
