Liu Jianchao Meets with Peter Dutton, Leader of the Opposition of Australia

Canberra, November 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Peter Dutton, Leader of the Opposition of Australia.

Liu said, in the past few years, China-Australia relations have experienced some twists and turns. With the joint efforts of both sides, bilateral relations have begun to get on the right track of stability and improvement. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Australian side to uphold the positioning of a comprehensive strategic partnership, respect each other, enhance mutual understanding and trust through constructive dialogue, and properly manage differences. China will continue to expand high-level opening-up and is willing to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with the Australian side for mutual benefit and win-win results. Both sides should promote the resumption of personnel exchanges in various fields, especially enhance the friendship between the two peoples and consolidate the social foundation of bilateral relations. Inter-party exchanges play an important role in national relations. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen inter-party exchanges and cooperation with the Australian side, enhance mutual understanding, and contribute to the improvement and development of China-Australia relations.

Dutton welcomed Liu's visit to Australia, believing that the resumption of dialogue is conducive to further development of bilateral relations. Dutton said, China has undergone tremendous changes in recent years, and Australia-China relations have also experienced significant development. The Liberal Party of Australia is glad to see China's development and economic growth, as well as Australia-China relations returning to a normal track of development. The Liberal Party of Australia supports the two sides in enhancing friendship and carrying out mutually beneficial cooperation. At the same time, both sides should face differences squarely, engage in frank communication, and avoid another impact on bilateral relations. Currently, Australia-China cooperation is gradually recovering, and it is hoped that the Chinese side will further open its market to Australia. The Liberal Party of Australia is willing to maintain communication with the Chinese side to enhance mutual understanding.

Both sides also exchanged on some specific issues concerning bilateral relations.
