 ( 2023.12.04 )

Canberra, November 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with David Littleproud, Leader of the National Party of Australia.

Liu said, not long ago, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese successfully visited China, where he met with President Xi Jinping and reached a series of important consensus, opening a new chapter in bilateral relations. In the past few years, there have been some ups and downs in China-Australia relations. However, historically speaking, China-Australia relations have maintained stable development over the past 50 years and more since the establishment of diplomatic relations. This stability fundamentally stems from both sides adhering to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations and handling bilateral relations based on the common interests of both countries. We should cherish the positive momentum in the improvement of bilateral relations, uphold the principle of mutual respect, enhance mutual understanding through constructive dialogue, properly manage differences, and create a favorable atmosphere for the further development of bilateral relations.

Liu said, the CPC and the National Party of Australia have maintained friendly exchanges for a long time. With the improvement of China-Australia relations, it is hoped that the two Parties will strengthen communication, promote cooperation between the two countries in politics, economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as well as international affairs, and consolidate the foundation, enhance consensus, and provide new impetus for the further development of China-Australia relations.

Littleproud expressed his pleasure at seeing a new chapter unfold in Australia-China relations. The National Party of Australia supports Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's visit to China, believing that the visit has achieved important results. Australia-China relations are crucial, and China's investment in Australia has played a positive role in Australia's economic development, including its export expansion. There are differences between Australia and China in political systems and religious beliefs, and disputes are inevitable. As long as both sides respect each other and engage in timely and frank communication, especially understanding each other's intentions from a cultural perspective, we can enhance mutual understanding and trust and push forward bilateral relations. The National Party of Australia is willing to strengthen coordination with other Australian political parties and continue to play a constructive role in Australia-China relations.
