New York, January 8th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), attended a special seminar under the China-U.S. 1.5 Track Dialogue. John L. Thornton, Global Co-Chair of Asia Society, Gary Rieschel, Founding Managing Partner of Qiming Venture Partners, Daniel Russel, Vice President for International Security and Diplomacy at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and former Assistant Secretary of State, Wendy Cutler, Vice President of the ASPI and former Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, Jing Qian, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Center for China Analysis at the ASPI, as well as officials from the General Office of the CPC Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission, the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and relevant departments in Shanghai, attended the event.

Liu stated that in recent years, China-U.S. relations have experienced some ups and downs. The important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden at their meeting in San Francisco has provided direction and momentum for the stable development of China-U.S. relations. The bilateral relations are showing stabilizing and improving momentum. President Xi Jinping pointed out that China-U.S. relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world. How China and the U.S. get along with each other will determine the future and destiny of mankind. Both sides need to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, establish correct understanding, effectively manage differences, promote mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly shoulder the responsibilities of major countries, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Both sides should uphold the spirit of mutual respect and equality, live in peace with each other, and be partners to each other. Efforts should be made to enhance mutual understanding, promote cooperation, continue the positive momentum from the meeting, advance pragmatic cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade, achieve tangible results, and enhance the confidence of the two peoples in China-U.S. relations. The IDCPC is willing to continue strengthening exchanges and cooperation with the Asia Society, effectively operate the 1.5 track dialogue mechanism, and contribute to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.

The U.S. side expressed that the outcomes achieved at the meeting between the two heads of state in San Francisco far exceeded expectations, especially President Xi Jinping's speech at the welcome dinner by friendly organizations in the United States, where he sincerely and pragmatically expounded his propositions and measures for the development of China-U.S. relations, which was convincing. President Xi Jinping's invitation for 50,000 American youth to come to China for exchanges and learning in the next five years conveyed the importance attached to people-to-people and cultural exchanges and pointed out an important path for breaking through the difficulties in U.S.-China relations. It is hoped that both sides will strengthen communication, exchanges, and cooperation, especially through concrete actions to gradually eliminate obstacles in bilateral relations and promote the sustained development of bilateral relations.
