Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia

Beijing, January 15th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia led by Irakli Kobakhidze, Chair of the Party and former Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.

Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia, both countries have stay committed to equal treatment between countries regardless of its size and mutual benefit and win-win results, maintaining healthy and stable development of bilateral relations. Last year, President Xi Jinping met with visiting Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, during which China and Georgia issued a joint statement on establishing a strategic partnership. The CPC and the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, as the ruling parties of respective countries, should take the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as the guidance, continuously enhance strategic mutual trust, and strengthen exchanges on issues such as the party building and improving governance capabilities. The Chinese side appreciates the Georgian side's firm adherence to the one-China principle and its valuable support on the Taiwan question. Georgia is one of the first countries to respond to the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is hoped that the two sides will build "political parties + economic and trade" and "political parties + locality" platforms to promote practical cooperation and better benefit the two countries and peoples.

Liu said, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and the CPC, the Chinese people have achieved the first centenary goal and are currently moving towards the second centenary goal. China firmly promotes high-quality development and is advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, which will provide more development opportunities for countries around the world, including Georgia. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Georgian side to implement the three major global initiatives, firmly safeguard multilateralism and international fairness and justice, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

Kobakhidze said, in recent years, Georgia-China relations have developed rapidly. Particularly during Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili's successful visit to China last year, the two sides upgraded relations to a strategic partnership, which is of historic significance. Giving priority to developing relations with China, the Georgian side hopes to give full play to the role of the free trade agreement between the two countries and strengthen cooperation in economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and infrastructure such as ports and highways. It is willing to give full play to its location advantage as the crossroads of Europe and Asia, actively participate in the Belt and Road cooperation, and promote its connection with the construction of the "Middle Corridor" initiative. The Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia cherishes its partnership with the CPC and is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side, deepen experience exchange in state governance and administration, and promote relations between the two countries for all-round development. The Georgian side will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle.
