Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of Members of Congress of the Union of Several Political Parties of Mexico

Beijing, January 25th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of members of the Congress of the Union of several political parties of Mexico. The delegation is led by Yeidckol Polevnsky, President of the Mexico-China Friendship Group of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and former President of National Regeneration Movement.

Liu said, China and Mexico are both ancient civilizations and share a longstanding friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields have made substantial progress. At the end of last year, President Xi Jinping held a meeting with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in San Francisco, which provided important strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. In the face of the current complex and volatile international situation, President Xi Jinping has successively proposed the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, contributing the Chinese solutions to the common problems facing mankind. The Chinese side attaches great importance to Mexico's international status and influence, and appreciates the Mexican side's long-term adherence to the one-China principle. It is willing to work with the Mexican side to strengthen the docking of development strategies, tap cooperation potential, support each other's core interests and major concerns, deepen coordination on international and multilateral affairs, and continuously enrich the connotation of China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership, so as to better benefit the two countries and peoples.

Liu said, political parties are the source of domestic and foreign policies of most countries. They guide and represent public opinion, and also organize and implement many policies. At present, the CPC is uniting and leading the Chinese people to advance the noble cause of building a great country and national rejuvenation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. The CPC appreciates the positive contributions made by all political parties of Mexico in promoting the development of relations between the two countries, and is willing to work with the Mexican side to strengthen experience exchange in state governance and administration through inter-party exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust, deepen economic and trade cooperation, promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and support each other in respective development and social progress, so as to continuously push bilateral relations to a new level.

Polevnsky and members of the delegation said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Mexico-China relations have developed steadily, and the traditional friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries have continued to deepen. Successive Mexican governments have firmly adhered to the one-China principle. Despite different political views, political parties of Mexico all adhere to friendly policies towards China. The Mexican side speaks highly of the great achievements China has made under the leadership of the CPC, the three major global initiatives and the joint construction of the BRI proposed by President Xi Jinping. It believes that China's development provides important opportunities for countries around the world, including Mexico, and looks forward to strengthening practical cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, and people-to-people and cultural engagement between the two countries, as well as working hand in hand with the Chinese side on the road to modernization to jointly build a better world.
