Liu Jianchao Meets with Espen Barth Eide, Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs

Beijing, February 5th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Espen Barth Eide, Norway's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Liu said, Norway is one of the first Western countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Norway. In recent years, China-Norway relations have continued to develop healthily and steadily, with closer cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Norwegian side to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen cooperation in economy, trade, green development, maritime cooperation, and ice and snow sports, strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs, and jointly promote China-Norway and China-European Union (EU) relations for healthy and stable development.

Liu said, the CPC is leading the Chinese people to advance the cause of building a great country and national rejuvenation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. China will continue to deepen reform, expand opening up, promote high-quality development, and share more development opportunities with the world. The CPC is willing to strengthen exchanges with major political parties of Norway, including the Labour Party, on governance philosophy and development strategies, deepen mutual understanding and trust, and facilitate exchanges and practical cooperation between the two countries at local levels through inter-party channels, so as to promote bilateral relations.

Eide said, the Norwegian side highly appreciates the Chinese side's great achievements in poverty alleviation, green development and other fields, and is willing to take the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, investment, sustainable development, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges to better benefit the two peoples. China has important influence in the world. The Norwegian side hopes to strengthen coordination with the Chinese side in promoting the resolution of international and regional hot-spot issues. The Norwegian side attaches importance to the role of political party exchanges in bilateral relations, and is willing to maintain friendly exchanges and cooperation with the CPC to push bilateral relations for new development.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.
