Zhao Shitong Meets with Rudolf Scharping, Former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and Chairman of RSBK AG

Beijing, March 14th—Zhao Shitong, Assistant-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today on the morning with Rudolf Scharping, former Chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany and Chairman of RSBK AG at request. 


Zhao said, this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of inter-party relations between the CPC and the Social Democratic Party of Germany. He looked forward to further strengthening dialogue and communication between the two Parties to promote the further development of the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership. Currently, China is accelerating the development of new quality productive forces, continuously promoting high-quality economic development and high-level opening-up to the outside world, bringing new opportunities for practical cooperation in economy and trade between China and Germany. It is hoped that the German business community will continue to deepen cooperation with China, promoting China-Germany and China-European Union (EU) economic and trade relations to a new level. Zhao also briefed on China's “Two Sessions”, the annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in 2024. 

Scharping said, the Social Democratic Party of Germany has always attached great importance to developing relations with the CPC. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of inter-party relations between the two Parties, it is hoped that both Parties will look back at our histories, look forward to the future, and continuously deepen exchanges and cooperation. The concept of high-quality development emphasized during China's “Two Sessions” aligns with the sustainable development strategies of Germany and the EU. There are broad prospects for cooperation between Germany and China in areas such as energy, science, technology, and response to climate change. He looked forward to new progress in practical cooperation between the two sides in various fields.
