Liu Jianchao Meets with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, President of the Pheu Thai Party

Bangkok, March 31st—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, President of the Pheu Thai Party. Julapun Amornvivat, Vice President of the Pheu Thai Party, Deputy Finance Minister and Member of the House of Representatives, and others were present.  


Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand nearly half a century ago, bilateral relations have withstood the test of the changing international landscape and achieved high-level development. We are willing to work with the Thai side to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Thai leaders, pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen regional connectivity, promote cooperation in emerging industries and future-oriented industries, and deepen exchanges in culture, education, health, tourism and other fields, intensify friendly exchanges between the two peoples, enhance the influence and attraction of the two countries, constantly give connotations to the special friendship between China and Thailand in the new era and jointly promote the construction of a China-Thailand community with a shared future.  

Liu said, the Pheu Thai Party is an old friend of the CPC. The CPC is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges with the Pheu Thai Party, especially exchanges between young politicians, deepen exchanges and mutual learning of concepts and experience in state governance and administration, make good use of "political party +" platforms to promote subnational and non-governmental cooperation, and jointly promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, inspire each other and move forward hand in hand in exploring respective modernization paths.    

Paetongtarn said, the Pheu Thai Party and the CPC have long maintained friendly exchanges and cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries nearly 50 years ago, Thailand-China relations have made great progress. I am honored to witness and participate in the development of relations between the two Parties and the two countries. Thailand and China have carried out sound cooperation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, including the construction of the Thailand-China Railway. The two countries enjoy strong momentum in economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchanges. The new Thai government attaches great importance to developing its relations with China, and the Pheu Thai Party fully supports this. It is hoped that more Chinese companies will invest in Thailand and promote the transformation and upgrading of Thai industries. Thailand and China have implemented a mutual visa exemption policy. More Chinese tourists are welcome to visit Thailand. As the Deputy Chair of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee of Thailand, I hope to strengthen exchanges with the Chinese side in improving Thailand's brand competitiveness, and also hope to strengthen health cooperation with China. The Pheu Thai Party is willing to strengthen exchanges at all levels with the CPC to promote relations between the two Parties and the two countries for further development.
