IDCPC Holds Thematic Briefing on the Sixth Plenary Session of
the 17th CPC Central Committee for Foreign Diplomats in Beijing

BEIJING, October 24th -- The just-concluded Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee has attracted attention of foreign diplomats in Beijing as well as the international media. To respond to the attention and to help foreign diplomats and the international community to have a right interpretation of the meeting, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee held a thematic briefing in Beijing on October 24th on the meeting. Vice-minister Wang Xiaohui of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee was invited as guest speaker to interpret the meeting. Over 130 diplomats from more than 100 countries actively participated in the meeting.

Wang talked about major items on the agenda, and elaborated on the main considerations behind choosing cultural reform and development as the theme of the meeting. He also briefed the audience on the drafting process of relevant documents, their main content as well as the goals, principles and major measures for promoting cultural reform and development.

Wang pointed out that one of the highlights and major contributions of the meeting was to put forward, for the first time ever, the idea of sticking to the path of socialist cultural development with Chinese characteristics and to elaborate on the connotations and basic requirements of this path. Following the introduction, Wang answered questions put forward by some diplomats and had candid exchange of ideas with them.

Diplomats attending the event spoke highly of the briefing, regarding it to be authoritative, concise and informative. In their feedbacks, they said the briefing helped them understand the significance and far-reaching impact of devoting a plenary session to reform of the cultural sector, and the strategic plan and measures for promoting the system of Socialist core values, promoting great development and great prosperity of culture, and building a culturally strong country.
