Beijing, April 4th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President Emeritus of Lakas–Christian Muslim (Lakas–CMD), Senior Deputy Speaker of Philippine House of Representatives, and former Philippine President.

Liu said, the stable development of China-Philippines relations conforms to the common interests and aspirations of the two peoples. Ms. Arroyo has long been committed to China-Philippines friendship, wholeheartedly carried on the friendship between the two countries, and made positive contributions to promoting the friendly cause of the two countries. Under the current circumstances, China and the Philippines should well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state at the beginning of this year, and do more things that are conducive to enhancing mutual trust. The CPC is willing to deepen mutual learning with the Lakas–CMD, strengthen personnel exchanges and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and promote China-Philippines relations for healthy development.

Arroyo said, the people of the Philippines and China hold friendly feelings towards each other. The Philippines attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and is willing to maintain close communication and sound cooperation with the Chinese side, and strengthen exchanges between the political parties and non-governmental exchanges between the two countries, so as to lay a solid foundation for the development of relations between our two countries.
