Liu Jianchao Meets with Alan Ganoo, Foreign Minister of Mauritius

Port Louis, July 24th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Alan Ganoo, head of Patriotic Movement of Mauritius and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius.

Liu said, in recent years, the leaders of China and Mauritius have maintained close exchanges, drawing a blueprint for the development of China-Mauritius relations. The two sides have continuously made new progress in cooperation between political parties and governments at all levels. Sharing similar historical experiences, we have always supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, and firmly safeguarded the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries in the UN system. The CPC is willing to carry out exchanges and cooperation with the Patriotic Movement of Mauritius, to promote the healthy and stable development of China-Mauritius relations. Attaching importance to Mauritius as an overseas tourist destination for Chinese nationals, the Chinese side is willing to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance people-to-people bonds.

Liu said, at present, the CPC is leading and uniting the people of all ethnic groups in China to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, creating new opportunities for the world, including Mauritius, with new advances in China’s development. It is hoped that the two sides will take the implementation of the "Nine Projects" of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the China-Mauritius Free Trade Agreement as an opportunity, carry out cooperation such as the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, add impetus to China-Africa cooperation, maintain stability of the global industrial and supply chains, and promote world peace, development and prosperity.

Ganoo spoke positively of the relationship between Mauritius and China, saying that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than 50 years ago, the traditional friendship between Mauritius and China has grown stronger as time goes by. The Mauritian side thanks the Chinese side for the selfless assistance to Mauritius' economic and social development. As a small island country, Mauritius highly appreciates China's proposal to strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. It is believed that this will strongly promote the international community's cooperation in tackling climate change.

Patriotic Movement of Mauritius attaches great importance to friendly relations with China, and is willing to further strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side through inter-party channels to promote the continuous development of relations between the two Parties and the two countries. The Mauritian side looks forward to seizing the new development opportunities brought about by Chinese modernization, welcomes Chinese enterprises and more Chinese tourists, and continuously enhances the bonds between the two peoples. The Mauritian side has always firmly adhered to the one-China principle, and, together with China, firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, and will continue to support China's position in international affairs. It is willing to play the role of the corridor between Asia and Africa, continuously enhance Africa-China relations, and jointly promote regional and world peace and development.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
