Kuala Lumpur, March 29th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Mohamad Hasan, Deputy President of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
Liu said, China and Malaysia are good friends and good partners who know each other well. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has become increasingly mature and stable, with fruitful cooperation. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim jointly determined the development direction of a community with a shared future for the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Malaysian side to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen high-level exchanges and strategic communication, and promote a new round of practical cooperation and propel respective development. Meanwhile, both sides need to make good use of the visa-free policy between the two countries to strengthen people-to-people exchanges, including encouraging more students to study in respective countries, and consolidate the social foundation of bilateral relations. China attaches importance to Malaysia's status and role in ASEAN and will actively support Malaysia in promoting various agendas as the rotating Chair of ASEAN. It is hoped that the Malaysian side will actively play its role as the country coordinator of China-ASEAN relations, and push China-ASEAN relations for higher-level development. The CPC is willing to, together with the UMNO, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, promote the alignment of the two countries' development strategies, pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and boost bilateral relations for greater development.
Mohamad said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China 50 years ago, bilateral relations have made substantial progress. The Malaysian side attaches importance to its relations with China and cherishes the friendship between the two sides. This is not only because our two countries have good economic and trade cooperation, but also because bilateral relations are based on the long-term cultural exchanges and people-to-people friendship. The Malaysian side thanks China for its support. When Malaysia went through difficult times, China always stood with us. When Malaysia was in need, China always provided timely help. The Malaysian side hopes to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China as an opportunity to fully unleash the huge potential of bilateral relations and provide new opportunities for cooperation between governments, political parties, enterprises and non-governmental sectors of both sides. Malaysia will actively work to promote ASEAN-China relations, promote the early completion of negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and work with theChinese side to safeguard peace and stability in the region. The Malaysian side supports the political parties of the two countries in strengthening exchanges, including strengthening exchanges and training of cadres, and improving respective governance capabilities, to better benefit the two peoples.
Both sides also exchanged views on issues including the situation in Gaza and the Myanmar issue.
