Charlot Salwai, President of the Reunification Movement for Change and Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Meets with Liu Jianchao

Port Vila, May 27th—Charlot Salwai, President of the Reunification Movement for Change and Prime Minister of Vanuatu, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.  


Salwai welcomed CPC delegation, and said that this visit sends a strong signal that the CPC is committed to promoting relations between the two Parties and China and Vanuatu. He said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vanuatu and China in 1982, bilateral relations have continued to develop on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits. Many landmark buildings in the capital of Vanuatu are now built with Chinese assistance. Vanuatu thanks China for the selfless help in infrastructure construction, disaster prevention and reduction, health, etc. China is Vanuatu's true friend and partner. Vanuatu hopes to strengthen high-level exchanges with China, expand cooperation in economy, trade, finance, and climate change, expand sub-national exchanges, and promote greater development of Vanuatu-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Vanuatu adheres to the one-China principle and insists that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. It supports and actively participates in China-proposed initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative. The Reunification Movement for Change cherishes its friendly relations with the CPC and hopes to strengthen exchanges between the two Parties, enhance mutual trust, learn experience in state governance and administration from the CPC, promote the training of young cadres and cooperation in industry, tourism, people-to-people and cultural engagement and local areas, and promote the development of relations between the two Parties and two countries.  


Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu, bilateral relations have maintained healthy and stable development. China-Vanuatu relationship have become a model of mutual respect, solidarity and coordination between developing countries. China maintains that all countries, regardless of size, strength and wealth, are equal. China firmly opposes the strong bullying the weak, the rich bullying the weak and the big bullying the small. China highly appreciates Vanuatu's adherence to the one-China principle and supports Vanuatu in independently exploring a development path that suits its national conditions. China is willing to work with Vanuatu to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continuously consolidate the political foundation of China-Vanuatu relations, deepen the docking of development strategies, tap potential for cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, fishery, and tourism, and expand cooperation in new energy, digital economy and other fields, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and pursue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation together, so as to push China-Vanuatu comprehensive strategic partnership to higher levels.  

Liu said, political parties are the source of domestic and foreign policies of a country and play an important political leading role in the development of relations between countries. The CPC is willing to develop friendly relations with all political parties of Vanuatu, including the Reunification Movement for Change, to intensify exchanges at all levels through various means, deepen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, promote practical cooperation in various fields, and push China-Vanuatu relations for constant development. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Vanuatu to promote the building of a closer community with a shared future between China and Pacific Island Countries.
