Beijing, November 25th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg.
Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Luxembourg, the two sides have adhered to mutual respect, sought common ground while reserving differences, and set an example of mutually beneficial cooperation between large and small countries. At present, China-Luxembourg relations maintain a strong momentum of development, with remarkable results from cooperation in various fields. China and Luxembourg should inherit the tradition of friendship and push bilateral relations to a new level. Luxembourg is an important member of the European Union (EU), and China is willing to work with Luxembourg to promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations. The CPC stands ready to strengthen exchanges and dialogue with the political parties from Luxembourg to enhance mutual understanding and promote the development of China-Luxembourg relations.
Bettel said, Luxembourg and China have different sizes and systems, but both countries insist on mutual respect and achieve sound development in bilateral relations. Luxembourg upholds the concept of practical cooperation with China and opposes economic and trade wars. China is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and shoulders the important task of maintaining world peace. Luxembourg is willing to strengthen multilateral coordination and cooperation with China. Political parties in the world have different political views and positions, but they should communicate and learn from each other with an open mind and should not impose their own views on others.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the Ukraine crisis and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Ma Hui, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, Rol Reiland, Ambassador of Luxembourg to China, and others attended the meeting.
