Liu Jianchao Meets with a Delegation of Political Parties in Solomon Islands

Beijing, June 16th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with a delegation of political parties in Solomon Islands led by Matthew Wale, Leader of Opposition and Leader of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party. 


Liu said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Solomon Islands, thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, rapid development have been achieved in bilateral relations, with growing political mutual trust and fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation. In today’s turbulent world, China has, by keeping its policies consistent, stable and predictable, injected certainty into the world, and adhered to peace and cooperation. China appreciates Solomon Islands' firm adherence to the one-China principle and supports Solomon Islands in independently choosing a development path that suits its national conditions. China is willing to work with Solomon Islands to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen cooperation such as the Belt and Road cooperation, and promote the continued development of bilateral relations. China's cooperation with Solomon Islands and other Pacific Island countries (PICs) is sincerely aimed at supporting their development and targets no third party. In a world of changes and turmoil, China is committed to expanding exchanges and cooperation with the PICs, jointly responding to global challenges such as climate change, and building a closer community with a shared future for China and the PICs. The CPC is willing to maintain close exchanges with political parties in Solomon Islands, strengthen political dialogue, deepen exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, and boost practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries through the "political party +" channel. 


Wale said, during the visits across China, the delegation witnessed China's great achievements in economic development and other fields, and enhanced the understanding of China and the CPC. Establishing diplomatic relations with China is the right choice. Solomon Islands attaches great importance to relations with China. While political parties in Solomon Islands have different policy positions, they share broad consensus on developing ties with China. The Solomon Islands Democratic Party firmly adheres to the one-China principle and hopes to strengthen exchanges with the CPC, learn experience in party building, policy formulation, poverty alleviation from the CPC to enhance its own capacity. The PICs, including Solomon Islands, face severe challenges such as climate change. Solomon Islands commends China's global leadership in addressing climate change and other issues. 

Members of Parliament of the Solomon Islands Democratic Party and United Party were present. 

Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, exchanged views with the delegation on the same day.
