Beijing, May 7th—Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman.

Liu congratulated Bangladesh’s new government on a sound start to its governance. He noted that China and Bangladesh are close neighbors with profound friendship, and amity has always defined the underlying tone of bilateral relations. For more than 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China has consistently pursued a good-neighborly and friendly policy toward all people of Bangladesh, and supported the Bangladeshi people in taking an independent development path suited to its national conditions. This year marks the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and also the first year of Bangladesh's new government in office. Standing at a new starting point, China stands ready to work with Bangladesh to take the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries as the guidance, firmly support each other, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, and jointly contribute to regional and global peace and development. Inter-party exchanges have served as an important underpinning for the growth of China-Bangladesh relations. The CPC is ready to enhance exchanges between ruling parties and share experience in party governance and state administration with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, advance practical cooperation and people-to-people bonds between the two countries through the "political party +" platform, and continuously enrich the connotation of the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Liu also introduced the CPC’s people-centered development philosophy and its experience in strengthening self-building in keeping with the times.

Khalilur stated that Bangladesh-China friendship has stood the test of time, and friendship with China enjoys deep popular support in Bangladesh. He thanked China for supporting Bangladesh in safeguarding national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. Bangladesh’s new government attaches great importance to developing relations with China. It expects to jointly implement the important consensus between the two leaders, strengthen inter-party exchanges and exchanges on state governance and administration, draw on China’s development experience, expand practical cooperation across various fields, and elevate bilateral relations to a higher level. Bangladesh firmly adheres to the one-China principle, recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and acknowledges that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. It firmly supports China’s national reunification. As the world grows increasingly turbulent, Bangladesh highly appreciates China’s pivotal role in international affairs and stands ready to strengthen multilateral coordination and collaboration to uphold multilateralism.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
Sun Haiyan, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, and Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and Joint Secretary General for International Affairs of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, attended the meeting.
