On May 27th, relevant official from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee had telephone conversation via video link with Suos Yara, Member of the Central Committee of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Vice Chairman of the Commission for External Relations of the CPP Central Committee. Congratulating on the Cambodian people’s phased victory in COVID-19 response led by the CPP, the Chinese side briefed on China’s epidemic containment, coordinated efforts to promote epidemic prevention and economic and social development, and China’s Two Sessions. Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on deepening communication and cooperation between the CPC and the CPP.

Suos Yara expressed congratulation on the major strategic achievements the Chinese people have obtained in COVID-19 response under General Secretary Xi Jinping’s personnel command and deployment, and spoke highly of China’s contribution to international cooperation against the pandemic. Stressing that China’s firm support and selfless assistance are important factors for Cambodia to achieve sound results in its fight against the virus, Suos Yara expressed Cambodia’s opposition to politicizing and stigmatizing the epidemic, and its firm support for World Health Organization in leading the global fight against COVID-19. The CPP is willing to deepen mutual exchanges and cooperation with the CPC so as to promote the building of a Cambodia-China community of shared future.

Suos Yara also congratulated China on the convening of the Two Sessions, and expressed that the CPP firmly supports the Hong Kong-related legislation of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC). He stressed that China is an independent country, and Hong Kong is part of China. The NPC, acting in accordance with actual needs and the law, has exercised its constitutional power to enact Hong Kong-related legislation at the State level. This is a legitimate measure taken to safeguard national interests and plug loopholes in national security. This is the internal affair of the Chinese people, and it never allows any foreign forces to make irresponsible remarks or arbitrary accusations. The CPP firmly upholds the one-China principle and believes that the Hong Kong-related legislation will help fundamentally improve the “one country, two systems” and ensure Hong Kong's long-term stability and prosperity. All sectors of Cambodian society sincerely hope that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will achieve progress and prosperity with no external interference.
