On July 29, a thematic seminar on China-US people-to-people and cultural exchanges was held at Huangshicheng, Beijing. Li Mingxiang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and addressed the function. The seminar was jointly organized by the Contemporary World Press, the First Historical Archives of China, and the secretariat of the Chinese Association for International Understanding. More than 40 people, including experts and professors from a delegation of US sinologists, well-known figures of China's cultural circles, and scholars from research institutions and universities, were present.
Li spoke positively of US sinologists' contributions to the mutual understanding between the Chinese and American people and the development of bilateral relations. He hoped that participants of both countries would take this seminar as an opportunity to get to know each other. He called on participants of both countries to, under the strategic guidance of the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, further communicate with each other, strengthen exchanges, build platforms, write a brilliant chapter of innovative development of Sinology, facilitate bilateral cultural exchanges, and make even greater contributions to promoting the stable and healthy development of China-US relations.
US sinologist Thomas B. Gold thanked the Chinese side for hosting this seminar, calling it an opportunity for experts in Sinology of the US and China to strengthen exchanges. He expressed the willingness to actively communicate with Chinese experts and scholars, continuously push the development and innovation of Sinology, and further enhance mutual understanding.
Guests present at the seminar delivered speeches and had in-depth exchanges on the role of Sinology research in promoting correct mutual understanding between China and the US and advancing the development of China-US relations.
