Beijing, March 17th—Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today on the afternoon with Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies Delegation of the United States.
Lu welcomed the delegation, whose visit to the IDCPC is a part of China's initiative of inviting 50,000 young Americans to China on exchange and study programs in the next five years. Lu emphasized that China's policy toward the US remains highly consistent. China is willing to build a stable, healthy and sustainable bilateral relationship with the US in accordance with the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to China-US people-to-people and cultural exchanges and youth exchanges, and announced the initiative of inviting 50,000 young Americans to China on exchange and study programs in the next five years. This builds a bridge for the two peoples to enhance communication and trust and reduce misunderstandings and prejudices. It is hoped that the teachers and students of Johns Hopkins University will experience the real China in a comprehensive way through this visit and contribute to the development of China-US relations.
The students said, the 17 teachers and students of the delegation are all from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Face-to-face exchanges help enhance mutual understanding between the American and Chinese people. We are willing to actively contribute to the exchanges between the youth and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Lu answered more than 20 questions raised by students on China-US relations, political party exchanges, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as well as China's foreign policy, foreign aid, international image, RMB internationalization, the South China Sea issue, and response to climate change. Prior to the event, a short video of the IDCPC's recent exchanges with the US side was played amid a friendly and warm atmosphere.
