A thematic briefing "Stories of CPC: Qinghai's Achievements in Practicing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era", co-hosted by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the CPC Qinghai Provincial Committee, was held in Xining on Sept. 12.

The theme of the thematic briefing is "Chinese Modernization: Harmony Between Humanity and Nature." Over 150 political party leaders or representatives from nearly 30 countries attended the event in person.  

Georgiou, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL), expressed his admiration for his visit to China in an interview with the media during the briefing. Prior to his arrival, his knowledge of China was primarily shaped by European media reports. However, his on-site experience completely shattered his preconceived notions. He was astounded by the extensive and thriving development of Chinese society, which was a stark contrast to the portrayal of the European media. 

When it comes to green development, Georgiou pointed out that China has been making significant efforts to protect the environment, which holds great significance for the entire human race. Addressing climate change necessitates collective action, he said China is already at the forefront in this regard.  

Georgiou noted that the report to the 20th CPC National Congress contains many contents on green development and environmental protection. The report mentioned the building a beautiful China, promotion of the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, and sustainable development. In this process, we aim to achieve rapid economic growth while also ensuring that economic development and nature conservation go hand in hand. This approach has proven to be highly successful. The report also highlights the importance of protecting nature and the environment as we do our own lives, which is a crucial principle in environmental protection. The visible evidence of this commitment can be seen in China, including the city of Xining, which is a shining example of this spirit in action. Xining is a city that is very clean, green, and beautiful, with rivers and trees adorning its landscape. This achievement is truly commendable.  

Georgiou mentioned that he discovered China's national forest coverage rate was a mere 12 percent in the early 1980s, but it has now risen to 23 percent. This remarkable progress demonstrates China's successful translation of environmental protection theory into action. China has truly made significant strides in this area.
