Recently, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has issued a circular on starting Party history study and education.
The circular noted, the year 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the CPC. The CPC Central Committee decided to carry out Party history education throughout the party as a way to draw wisdom and strength from Party’s centenary struggle to forge ahead, thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, deepen and consolidate the results of the campaign under the theme of “staying true to our founding mission” and inspire all members of the Party and the people of all ethnic groups in China to embark on a new journey to build a modern socialist country with full confidence.
The circular said the past 100 years saw glorious achievements and tenacious struggles of the CPC. It also saw the CPC lay a solid foundation for various causes, and open up new prospects. The Communist Party of China led the people in creating a great history, forging great spirits and accumulating valuable experience. With the leadership of the CPC, China saw a tremendous transformation: it has stood up, grown rich and is becoming stronger. It made a great miracle both in the history of the Chinese nation and the history of human development. As the largest political party with long-term rule in the world, the CPC is in the best position to share the world with the Party’s past, present and future clearly, as well as guide cadres and people to learn valuable experience from the Party’s history, and carry forward the Party’s great spirits.
The circular stressed that studying history is to build a better future. At the moment, China is at a critical stage of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. At the historic moment, the CPC Central Committee’s decision to launch a campaign of Party history studying and education is of profound significance. It will help Party members summarize historical experience, grasp the law of history and maintain initiative, inherit Party’s great traditions, remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind and stick to the right direction. It will allow Party members to further apprehend Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, stay united in thought, steadfast of will, and in action, build a stronger Marxist governing party, and capture great success for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era at the new starting point in history.
The circular pointed out that all Party members need to study President Xi’s statements about Party history and have a full understanding of Party’s innovative theories and translate them into actions. Through learning Party history, Party members will understand the theories of the CPC, stay firm to our aspirations, carry forward the revolutionary spirits and guide our actions. Party members should be guided to enhance their consciousness of maintaining political integrity, thinking in big-picture terms, following the leadership core, and keeping in alignment with the central Party leadership, have confidence in the socialist path, theory, system and culture, and resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the CPC Central Committee and in the whole Party and uphold the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized and unified leadership. Party members should improve political judgment, understanding and execution, and continue striving for a modern socialist country and the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation.
The circular noted, the glorious but painstaking journey of the CPC should be engraved on every Party member’s mind. All members of the Party need to fully understand the Party’s great contributions to the country and the Chinese nation, and their original aspiration of serving the people. Party members should systematically grasp major theoretical achievements of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, study and inherit the great spirits accumulated over the long struggle, and learn from the valuable experience of Party’s successful revolution, construction and reform.
The circular stressed, Party committees (leading Party members’ groups) at all levels should attach great importance to the campaign, take it as a major task, and organize it carefully. Party members must understand its theories, do practical work and make new advances, and apply to what they have learnt to daily work. The campaign aims to educate all Party members, with cadres above the county/division level as the focus. Party members should carry forward Marxism, stick to correct orientation, strengthen supervision and guidance, and create a strong atmosphere of public opinion, to ensure tangible outcomes.
