Christchurch, May 25th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met with David Carter, former Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament and Honorary Chairman of the New Zealand-China Friendship Society, at Carter’s home in a suburb of Christchurch.
Liu praised Carter for his contributions to promoting friendship between China and New Zealand. Upon request, he introduced the history of China and the development of the CPC, pointing out that the leadership of the CPC is a decision made by history and the people. He stated that both sides should strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, carry on the tradition of friendship, and jointly promote greater development in China-New Zealand relations.
Carter warmly welcomed the delegation to his home and highly commended the CPC for leading the Chinese people to achieve significant accomplishments in economic and social development and various other endeavors. He expressed his willingness to continue contributing to the enhancement of New Zealand-China friendship.
