Liu Jianchao Meets with Seoule Simeon, President of the Laverwo Movement and Parliament Speaker of Vanuatu

Port Vila, May 26th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, met here today with Seoule Simeon, President of the Laverwo Movement and Parliament Speaker of Vanuatu.  


Liu said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu 42 years ago, China-Vanuatu relations have developed healthily and steadily on the basis of the one-China principle. China is willing to work with Vanuatu to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, support each other on issues involving each other’s core interests and major concerns, intensify exchanges between political parties and legislative bodies, expand cooperation in economy and trade, investment, culture, tourism and other fields, and promote greater development of China-Vanuatu comprehensive strategic partnership.  

Liu introduced the development process and experience in state governance and administration of the CPC. He highlighted that a country must find a path that fits its national context. Practice has proved that the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics is the right path toward development and prosperity. China respects the right of Vanuatu to choose its own development path and is willing to deepen mutual learning and achieve shared development with Vanuatu.  

Simeon said, Vanuatu thanks the Chinese side for its long-term sincere help, and appreciates that the Chinese side respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries and the right of other countries’ independent choice of development paths. Vanuatu is willing to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Vanuatu firmly adheres to the one-China principle. The key to China’s success is the strong leadership of the CPC. The Laverwo Movement hopes to strengthen the mutual learning between the Laverwo Movement and the CPC.
