Dhaka, June 24th—The China-Bangladesh Healthy Children Initiative: Strengthening Silk Road People-to-People Connectivity was held here today at an orphanage. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the event and delivered a speech. The event saw participation from over 400 individuals, including Dipu Moni, Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League and Minister of Social Welfare, Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Stefan Liller, Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bangladesh, members of the local parliament, and representatives of teachers and students.
Liu said that having a peaceful desk in a beautiful campus is still a luxury for many in regions plagued by war and famine. The fact that students have better living and learning conditions than their predecessors is due to the remarkable achievements and progress of their great country, Bangladesh. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved political stability and rapid economic growth, with continuous improvements in social conditions and living standards, making the nation increasingly prosperous and strong. This is the confidence of the people.
Liu said, since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, especially over the past few decades, China has undergone tremendous changes under the leadership of the CPC and the collective efforts of the Chinese people. While China has developed, it has never focused solely on its own development but has always aimed at promoting global development and shared prosperity, because we know that China cannot achieve continuous development without the development of its friendly neighbors and the whole world, and that China's destiny is closely linked with that of the rest of the world.
Liu said, the students are in an age of vigor and boundless potential, coinciding with Bangladesh’s era of focusing on development and forging ahead. Your predecessors shouldered the historical responsibility of realizing national independence and development with their lives and sweat, and the future of the country belongs to you and depends on your hands to create. When you grow up, you are welcome to study, work and live in China and contribute to China-Bangladesh friendship.
Moni said, the friendship between Bangladesh and China spans millennia, and since the establishment of diplomatic relations, bilateral relations have continually developed. Under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership, Bangladesh has achieved miraculous development, and China's valuable support has played an important role in this regard. China is a trusted friend of Bangladesh. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and China. Bangladesh will take this opportunity to comprehensively strengthen practical cooperation in various fields, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, learn from China's experience in economic and social development, especially poverty alleviation, and create a better future for bilateral relations.
Atiqul expressed his gratitude to the Chinese side for its long-term selfless help to the people of Dhaka North City Corporation, especially the generous donation of the CPC delegation to more than 200 children in the orphanage, which reflects the profound friendship of the Chinese people towards the people of Bangladesh.
At the event, Liu announced the donation of a mobile operating room vehicle for congenital heart disease to the Bangladeshi side and distributed school bags and stationery to student representatives. The students' faces beamed with joy, and the event was marked by a warm and friendly atmosphere and warm applause.
