Dhaka, June 24th—Sheikh Hasina, Leader of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, met here today with Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
Hasina welcomed Liu and his delegation. She said, Bangladesh and China share a long-standing friendship. My late father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited China twice in 1952 and 1957, and forged a deep friendship with the older generation of Chinese leaders, laying a solid foundation for the development of Bangladesh-China relations. I visited China as the leader of the opposition party and the prime minister of the government, and witnessed China's great development achievements. President Xi Jinping's state visit to Bangladesh in 2016 is of great historical significance. The Bangladeshi side thanks the Chinese side for the valuable support for Bangladesh's economic and social development. Many major infrastructure projects now in Bangladesh, such as the Padma Bridge, are constructed by China, which play an important role in Bangladesh's economic take-off. Amid the turbulent international situation, Southeast Asia and South Asia maintain a rare peace situation. Bangladesh pursues the foreign policy of "friendship to all, malice to none" proposed by Bangladesh's Founding Father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and hopes to get along with all countries in a friendly manner, especially to strengthen comprehensive cooperation with China and enhance the well-being of the two peoples. The AL attaches great importance to its relations with the CPC, and is willing to strengthen exchanges between the two Parties, especially between the youth, learn the experience of state governance and administration from the CPC, and promote the development of relations between the two countries.
Liu said, high-level leadership is an important feature of the development of China-Bangladesh relations. The solid friendship between China and Bangladesh was jointly created by the older generation of leaders. In 2016, President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to Bangladesh, during which he and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina continuously elevated bilateral relations to a new height and charted the course for the development of China-Bangladesh relations. China and Bangladesh have similar historical experiences and uphold similar foreign policies, values and development concepts. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Bangladeshi side to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, promote the in-depth integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with Bangladesh's Smart Bangladesh strategy, and promote greater development of bilateral relations.
Liu said, the CPC and the AL are both ruling parties, and are committed to serving the people and national development. The CPC is willing to strengthen institutionalized exchanges with the AL, strengthen exchanges of experience in state governance on issues such as party building and anti-corruption, and play an active role in driving the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations and the smooth realization of the development visions of each country. At present, China is comprehensively promoting Chinese modernization with high-quality development, which will bring new opportunities to all countries. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Bangladeshi side in various fields to inject strong impetus into the development of China-Bangladesh relations.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
Liu also paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum and laid wreath here on the same day.
