Beijing, January 21st–Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Touhid Hossain, Adviser for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh’s Interim Government.
Liu said, China and Bangladesh have been friends and partners for long, with a deep mutual affection between the two peoples. Bilateral relations have withstood the tests of various international vicissitudes and the fluctuating internal situation in Bangladesh, maintaining strong momentum for development. The Chinese side supports the Bangladeshi people in choosing their own path of development and backs the Interim Government’s efforts to advance political reforms and the electoral agenda, believes Bangladesh would overcome its challenges and return to a path of unity, stability, and prosperity. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Bangladeshi side to advance cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and in other areas, aiming to further develop the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries. The CPC is ready to maintain friendly exchanges with all political parties in Bangladesh, enhance exchanges and mutual learning of experience in state governance and administration, deepen political mutual trust, and continuously strengthen the foundation of public support for bilateral relations.
Touhid stated that cooperation with China is a key factor in Bangladesh’s economic development. Many of the country’s large-scale infrastructure projects have been undertaken by the Chinese side. And the Bangladeshi side is deeply grateful for the long-standing support of the Chinese side for its economic and social development. The friendship between the two countries is deeply rooted in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people. The friendly relationship between Bangladesh and China is unchanged and will remain unchanged despite domestic changes in Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi side supports and actively participates in the Belt and Road Initiative and is eager to further strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side in areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure, healthcare, and more. Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest and do business in Bangladesh. The new Bangladeshi government is committed to responding to the people's concerns, particularly concerns of the youth, and looks forward to further strengthening inter-party exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side.
