Beijing, March 18th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), held a group meeting here today with board of directors of and senior executives of Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited of Singapore. More than 60 people were present, including Sun Haiyan, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, relevant officials from Chinese ministries and local governments, Lim Boon Heng, Chairman of Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited, and Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited.
Liu said, in recent years, China-Singapore relations have continued to develop at a high level. President Xi Jinping has met with Singaporean leaders many times, providing strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations in the new era. China is willing to work with Singapore to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, maintain high-level exchanges, focus on practical cooperation, strengthen multilateral coordination, and promote China-Singapore relations for steady and long-term development. At present, economic globalization is facing headwinds. Tariff wars and trade wars are steadily gaining momentum. The world is witnessing a serious contest between multilateralism and unilateralism. And protectionism is on the rise. China and Singapore are both firm supporters of opening up and free trade. China will further comprehensively deepen reforms, expand high-level opening up, and is willing to work hand in hand with countries around the world, including Singapore, to achieve common development.
Liu said, Temasek holds a special status in Singapore, and enjoys a high reputation in the area of international investment and in China. Temasek has been deeply integrated into China's reform, opening up and modernization process for a long time, reflecting the important characteristics of China-Singapore cooperation that keeps pace with the times and China-Singapore all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership. Well-established international enterprises including Temasek are welcome to continue to develop in China and share the opportunities of China's economic development. The IDCPC is ready to strengthen exchanges and mutual learning with the People's Action Party (PAP) and all sectors of Singapore.
Lim Boon Heng and other guests said, China has made tremendous achievements in economic and social development over the past decades, especially in education, scientific and technological innovation, etc. China's organizational, mobilization and action capabilities are admirable and worth learning. As an investor, Temasek values a country's market, and more importantly, whether the country has an environment and system for talents to grow. Temasek is optimistic about the Chinese market and China's development potential, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields to achieve win-win development.
Jiang Xiaojuan, former Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council, mainly introduced China's current economic situation, emphasizing that the Chinese government is adjusting macroeconomic policy and promoting reforms, innovation, and opening up simultaneously, and is capable of and confident to achieve the economic growth targets. Zhang Ge, Secretary of CPC Haidian District Committee of Beijing, introduced Haidian's socio-economic development, expressing that Haidian will harness the geographical advantages to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Singapore. Wu Jincheng, Deputy Secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal Government and Government Head of Pudong New Area introduced Pudong's steps to promote reform and opening up and innovative development, based on its economic and trade cooperation with Singapore. Pan Guojun, Head of a bureau of the Office of the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs, Pan Jiang, Head of the Department of International Cooperation of the National Development and Reform Commission, and Wei Wei, Head of the department of science and technology of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also answered questions from the Singaporean side and elaborated on relevant policies.
