Beijing, May 26th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Catherine West, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK. 

Liu said that since the beginning of this year, China and the UK have restarted institutional dialogues in various fields, and bilateral relations have shown momentum of improvement. China regards the UK as an important strategic partner and is willing to work with the UK to implement the new important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges and dialogues, and expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, clean energy, artificial intelligence and other fields. The current international situation is fraught with turbulence, with increasing instability and uncertainty. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major economies in the world, China and the UK should strengthen communication and coordination on international and regional affairs and work together to meet global challenges. The CPC is willing to work with major political parties of the UK to continue to make good use of mechanisms such as the China-UK Senior Leadership Forum, engage in frank and open dialogues, and enhance mutual understanding. 

West said, since the beginning of this year, the 2025 UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue and UK-China Strategic Dialogue have been held successively, and contacts between the departments of both sides have increased. The UK is willing to, together with China, strengthen exchanges and cooperation to consolidate the positive momentum of bilateral relations, and at the same time, engage in candid dialogues on issues where the two sides have differences, so as to further promote the development of bilateral relations. The current international situation is turbulent experiencing increasing difficulties and challenges. But all parties cannot give up easily and need to respond to them together. The UK looks forward to holding the 13th China-UK Senior Leadership Forum with China. 

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues.
