13th UK-China Senior Leadership Forum Held in London

London, June 9thThe 13th UK-China Senior Leadership Forum was held here today under the theme of UK-China: the bilateral relationship in a fast-changing world. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, David Lidington, Honorary President of the Great Britain-China Centre (GBCC) and former Minister for the Cabinet Office, Catherine West, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the UK, Andrew Rosindell, the Conservative MP who undertakes the role of Shadow Parliamentary Under Secretary (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs), attended and addressed the function. Nearly 50 people, including relevant officials from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Office of the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs, Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and members of Parliament from the Labour Party, Conservative Party, and Liberal Democrats.

 

The two sides believed that the world today is experiencing unprecedented challenges, with increasing instability and uncertainty. A healthy and stable China-UK relationship is very important for both countries and the world. The two sides should strengthen communication and dialogue, enhance mutual understanding and trust, expand cooperation in economy, trade, investment, scientific research, education, health, artificial intelligence, and climate change, reinforce people-to-people and cultural exchanges and enhance friendship between the two peoples, jointly maintain the international system with the United Nations at its core and promote world peace and development. The two sides had constructive exchanges and interactions on topics such as "the role of political parties in the future of China-UK relations" and "upholding multilateralism and jointly responding to global security concerns and global challenges". The two sides had candid and in-depth exchanges and discussions on issues where they differed. The two sides agreed to continue the Forum and make efforts to enhance understanding, manage differences, expand consensus and strengthen cooperation.
