Beijing, October 13th—Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Philipp Ackermann, the newly-appointed German Ambassador to China.

Liu welcomed Ackermann on his assumption of office in China. He said that President Xi Jinping’s successful meeting earlier this year with visiting German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had charted the course for the future development of China-Germany relations. The two sides should firmly uphold the positioning of their comprehensive strategic partnership and maintain the keynote of cooperation. Taking the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany next year as an opportunity, the two sides should strengthen exchanges and dialogue, consolidate political mutual trust, uphold mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, and advance high-level economic and trade cooperation on the basis of complementary strengths, so as to achieve new progress in practical cooperation across various fields. China-Germany relations play an important guiding role in China-European Union (EU) relations. He expressed the hope that Germany could play a positive role within the EU in helping the European side develop a correct view on China's development and address China-EU economic and trade concerns through equal consultations. In the face of a turbulent and complex international situation, China and Germany should work together to address global challenges, including geopolitical conflicts, climate change and energy security. The CPC stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with major German political parties.

Ackermann said that Germany attaches great importance to its relations with China. The German side admires China's economic and social development over the past several decades, including its advances in science and technology. German companies view China as a market full of future opportunities and are willing to continue deepening their presence and development in the country. With a series of important exchanges between Germany and China coming up, Germany is ready to seize the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation with China. The German side is glad to see the positive progress recently made in China-EU economic and trade consultations, and hopes that the two sides could continue to properly address the issue of trade imbalances. Germany is willing to work with China through channels such as the United Nations to address issues including climate change. Germany welcomes exchanges and dialogue between the CPC and German political parties, and the German Embassy in China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the IDCPC and jointly organize important events such as the “Bergedorf Round Table.”
