Beijing, January 20th—Lu Kang, Vice-minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today on the afternoon with a delegation of Harvard Students' China Trek 2025 of the United States (US).

Lu welcomed the students from Harvard University. He emphasized that China and the US should uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, strengthen communication and cooperation, and jointly bring benefits to the people of the two countries and those around the world.  President Xi Jinping announced that China is ready to invite 50,000 young Americans to China on exchange and study programs in the next five years, building a bridge for the two peoples to intensify exchanges and enhance friendship. It is hoped that the students from Harvard University can understand the real China through what they see, hear, and experience during this visit, and contribute to the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations. China advocates true multilateralism, actively promotes the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative, and has put forward three global initiatives. China is willing to seek common development with countries around the world, including the US, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The students said that the delegation consisted of nearly 50 members, and most of them were students from the Harvard Kennedy School, coming from more than 10 countries including the US, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt and Japan. China has made remarkable progress in various aspects such as economy, society and culture, gaining increasing international influence. The Belt and Road Initiative has achieved remarkable results. It is of great importance for China and the US to maintain communication. As long as the two peoples discard prejudice and communicate sincerely, they can become friends. The students said, no matter how the China-US relations change, we will be committed to strengthening exchanges among the youth of the two countries.

Lu answered questions raised by the students regarding China-US relations, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, China-US scientific and technological cooperation, China’s foreign policies towards Latin America and the Middle East, China’s opening-up and investment strategies, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Ukraine crisis, and trends in global political thoughts.
